Who is this program suitable for?

This program is available for group registration only (10 students minimum) by referral from educational agencies, language schools, colleges, universities, or corporations for the following candidates:

• 1.  A group of foreign teachers of English who wish to receive Canadian training and certification to update their skills and credentials to teach English in their own countries.
• 2.  A group of international students who wish to become trained and certified to teach English in their own countries.

Program Description

The in-class TESOL teacher training programs (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages Abroad) are designed for group registration only (10 students minimum) by referral from educational agencies, language schools, colleges, universities, or corporations for the following candidates:  1. A group of foreign teachers of English who wish to receive Canadian training and certification to update their skills and credentials to teach English in their own countries.  2. A group of international students who wish to become trained to teach English in their own countries.  All candidates need upper-intermediate to advanced level of English to be admitted to the course.

This program focuses on the communicative approach and includes methodology, teaching theories, teaching strategies, and practical techniques for teaching English grammar, speaking, reading, listening, and writing. The programs also highlight the use of various elements such as music, art, and drama in the classroom.

The diploma program runs for 100 hours and is ideal for trainees who want to gain deep and complete training for teaching English abroad.   This is an intensive and exciting program with an integrated practicum with a lot of student presentations and practice teaching to prepare students to teach in the real classroom!

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, you are expected to be able to:

• Gain a basic understanding of how to teach the four English communication skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
• Gain a basic understanding of how to teach English grammar and vocabulary.
  
• Develop an overview of teaching methodologies from the past to the present.
  
• Design detailed and dynamic lesson plans suitable for various levels.
  
• Have the basic tools and techniques for classroom management and dealing with unexpected situations.

Admission requirements

International Students:  One of the following:

1. Pass ATC's English assessment or
2. Completion of High Intermediate level of English or
2. Completion of an undergraduate degree from an English-speaking university or
3. IELTS 6.5 or
4. TOEFL 550 / iBT 80 or
5. TOEIC 750
